Ferry times & Route description

The ferry to Schiermonnikoog leaves from Lauwersoog. Your are not allowed to take your car on the island. There is a parking facility at the Lauwersoog departure point. Coming by train, there is a bus connection from the station in Groningen or Leeuwarden. The bus leaves 80 minutes ahead of the boat departure (see ferry schedule below).

The ferry service is taken care of by the company "Wagenborg". Please consult their website www.wpd.nl for the most accurate ferry schedule. 

The ferry trip takes about 45 minutes. Close to the landing pier a number of taxi's and public buses is awaiting you. A taxi will take you to the front entrance of Rijsbergen.

By public bus take the one with destination "Oosterreeweg". Get off in that street (at the beginning of the village) at the 2nd stop. You will find yourselve close to the side entrance of Rijsbergen. Once you have stepped out of the bus you will see this sign.

The location of the sign is the start of a footpath. Follow this path 75 meters and the Rijsbergen building will be in front of you.

Per bike (or on foot) take the inside of the dike towards the village and (after several kilometers) the 1st small road on your right (between the pastures). Cross the road to enter the "Oosterreeweg". At the end of this street opposite the bus garage is the footpath leading to the side entrance of Rijsbergen.
